The Field Training Exercise(FTX) Concept: Exercise Amani Carana 21 to 25 November 2009
- EX AMANI CARANA is a multi-national, multi-dimensional Field Training Exercise (FTX) which will test the Eastern African Standby Brigade (EASBRIG) on its path towards Initial Operating Capability (IOC). It will run from 21 to 25 Nov 09 in Djibouti with 1318 civilian, military and police participants from EASBRIG Member States.
- Exercise Amani Carana is a four day phased activity based on the UN/AU mandated mission authorized by the summit of the Eastern Africa region. The mission codenamed Eastern Africa Stand by Force (EASF) Mission in Carana (EMC) is based on a hypothetical African State Carana that has slid into crisis and depicted as a failed state with complex problems where humanitarian crisis develops that leads to grave human suffering. Within this scenario, EASBRICOM, with the directive from Policy Organs is to initiate support and execute a mission campaign involving the multidimensional regional standby forces available.
- EASBRIG is mandated to deploy forces in the shortest time possible in order to alleviate the situation. Acting as vanguard, a Rapid Deployment Capability (RDC) is deployed. EASBRIG’s follow-on, multi-dimensional force will act to sustain the mission.
